A German startup just became the first commercial company to reach orbit from continental Europe — On September 5, Isar Aerospace’s Spectrum rocket lifted off from Andøya Spaceport in Arctic Norway, crossed the Kármán line in under four minutes, and deployed six payloads into low Earth orbit, making it the first privately developed European rocket to reach orbit from continental Europe. The company, founded in 2018 near Munich, is now the first to complete the orbital milestone under ESA’s European Launcher Challenge.

Harvey raised $550M and nearly doubled its valuation to $15.5B in nine months — the vertical AI legal market is far from saturated — Harvey has now raised more than $1.55B across at least eight priced rounds since 2023, five of them since 2025. The company didn’t name the round. The pattern is the same as Databricks and Glean: high-growth AI companies skipping traditional Series labels as they raise continuously from existing and new investors. Harvey’s valuation growth (from $11B to $15.5B in nine months) signals that despite Legora and Thomsen Reuters’ AI push, the market for AI-native legal tools is still compressing, not consolidating.

Apple designed the critical hinge of its first foldable phone using AI. Apple’s Duo, announced at its “Surprise and Shine” event this week, carries a hinge that had to survive twice the wear of any conventional iPhone and fold without degrading over thousands of cycles. Apple used AI generative design and 3D-printed prototyping to find a geometry that passed durability testing faster than any previous process. For product designers and PMs: this is AI-assisted hardware design crossing from research lab to mass-market product.

Cloover became profitable — at a €301.7M revenue run rate — Three years after launch, Berlin’s Cloover (residential solar, heat pumps, home electrification) crossed profitability and is now launching a proprietary electricity tariff, becoming a fully-integrated AI-native energy provider rather than just a platform. The €86.2M ($100M) facility funds the neo-utility build. In January 2026, Cloover announced €1.04B in financing commitments. The profitable-at-scale moment matters because it challenges the “climate tech can’t make money” narrative that has slowed investment in the sector across Germany.

The Exploration Company raised $450M — the largest Series C for a European space startup — Led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Atomico, with the Scaleup Europe Fund (EQT), TEC’s raise lands in the same week Isar Aerospace reached orbit. The Nyx capsule is designed for cargo delivery to the ISS and future space stations — the European answer to SpaceX’s Dragon. Combined, the two announcements make this the most significant week for European sovereign access to space since Ariane 5’s final flight in 2023.
