Hugging Face just launched an open-source robot duck and Nvidia may be about to buy the whole company — Microduck is a 25cm bipedal robot with 15 motors, LiDAR, a grasping beak, and a full reinforcement learning training stack on GitHub. Train new behaviours in simulation, deploy to hardware. Pre-orders open now, shipping before Christmas. The launch drops at an awkward moment: Bloomberg and The Information both report Nvidia is in talks to acquire Hugging Face at a ~$13B valuation, unconfirmed, no comment from either company.

OpenAI is building AI agents for everything — Andrew Ambrosino, lead engineer for OpenAI’s desktop app, has given ChatGPT Work access to his entire digital life: inbox, Slack, Notion, Figma, his phone. Available at $20/month. The product represents OpenAI’s shift from specialised coding tools to general-purpose agents for everyone, and its biggest question: how much of your digital life are you willing to hand an LLM before the upside outweighs the risk of it pulling from a private DM it wasn’t supposed to see? The early-adopter answer from Ambrosino: “I’ll take the personal hit. And I haven’t had to yet.”

Nanolope — a TU Berlin spinout — just raised €800K to turn building facades into thermal batteries — The round is tiny but the technology is not: Nanolope’s phase-change materials store up to 24x more heat than gypsum board and integrate into existing walls, roofs, and facades without structural changes. IBB Ventures and angels from energy, real estate, and materials tech backed the pre-seed. With 14 million poorly insulated German buildings and a mandatory retrofit wave arriving under EU energy law, the TAM is structural rather than speculative.

Meta just open-sourced a 30B-parameter model that runs local AI agents on your Mac — Muse Glimmer, released August 10, is a distilled version of Meta’s most powerful closed model (Muse Spark), quantized to under 20GB so it runs on a single consumer GPU. Apache 2.0 licence — download, modify, deploy. Optimised specifically for local agent workflows, function calling, and LLM-as-a-judge evaluation. Accompanied by a Zuckerberg manifesto on “individual empowerment” and the risks of concentrating AI power — and a promise to release the full Muse Spark 1.2 weights soon.

Google’s A2A and Anthropic’s MCP are now under the same neutral governance roof — and every major AI lab signed — On August 17, Google’s Agent-to-Agent protocol (A2A) joined the Agentic AI Foundation alongside MCP, putting the two dominant open standards for the agent economy under a single Linux Foundation-directed body. A2A handles how agents talk to each other (horizontal); MCP handles how agents connect to tools and data (vertical). Together they form the protocol stack for the agentic economy. AWS, Anthropic, Block, Bloomberg, Cloudflare, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI are all platinum signatories. For engineering teams building multi-agent systems: the era of proprietary agent protocols is effectively over.
