China just did DeepSeek again — Moonshot’s Kimi K3 went viral, crashed its own servers in 48 hours, and rattled Washington — Moonshot AI released Kimi K3 on July 17 at the World AI Conference in Shanghai: an open-weight model trained on 2.8 trillion parameters that matches or beats current OpenAI and Anthropic models on most benchmarks, and is free to download and self-host. Demand was so high it halted new subscriptions within two days. Unlike proprietary US models, open-weight means no API lock-in, developers download, modify, and run it on their own infrastructure.

AI agents need to pay for things, and Natural just raised $30M to build the payments layer for the agentic economy — Natural, 193 days old and pre-revenue, just closed a $30M Series A led by Forerunner to build: agent wallets, multi-bank settlement, fraud detection, and agent identity verification in a stack it owns end-to-end. CEO Lalji’s projection: “The number of payments that may occur in the world could be two to four orders of magnitude greater than today’s volume.” First pilots running with major LLM providers.
